About Carmen Breeveld
Pleasure to meet you, Carmen Breeveld!
“The unequal distribution of top positions between men and women, as well as the lack of diversity and inclusion within organizations, are policy issues that have been a topic of discussion for decades. In my opinion, we must really take action on these matters! These issues have been on the agenda for far too long. It is time we can check them off. Moreover, focusing more on the capabilities of women generates economic growth.
Personally, I have been active on the career and entrepreneurial ladder since I was 21, and almost everything I set out to achieve, I managed to accomplish. Men and women increasingly asked me, ‘How do you do it? Why are you able to succeed? Even with your culturally diverse background in a world dominated by white men?’
For me, it comes naturally, but these skills can be learned. I experienced firsthand which skills led to a desired appointment. Through my (executive) search mediation over the past decades, I have seen all the reasons why female candidates were rejected. I feel it is my duty to pass on that knowledge and experience to ambitious, highly-educated women who are striving for a top appointment. I want to equip them with the skills to realize their dreams and secure the highly coveted top positions.
That is why I developed this program. My book, *The Secret of the Old Boys Network*, forms the backbone of this program. And during the program, several women in top positions are happy to share their own insights for the necessary cross-pollination. Teaching women the unwritten rules for successfully advancing to top positions is the primary reason for founding the Top Women Academy. This is the impact and legacy I aim to contribute to with Top Women Academy.”
Establishment of the
Top Women Academy
More women in top positions — that was the underlying thought behind the introduction of the ‘women’s quota’ for the corporate world.
The leadership program of the Top Women Academy focuses on the development of the woman as an individual.
That is why we teach women the right skills, so they can take control of their own careers and not have to rely on a legal target.
Until now, solutions have been sought outside of women themselves. The focus has been too much on external factors and raising awareness among men.
However, women themselves play the most important role in this. The key lies with women. The Top Women Academy highlights this other perspective and makes ambitious women ‘ready to board’ by teaching the necessary soft skills and fostering personal development.
The final step is learning to apply all the acquired skills and creating a lasting Sisterhood United environment.
This way, we achieve a situation where women who are ready to take on board positions are actually appointed.
